Using the WYSIWYG for copy and PDFs

  • Introduction to the WYSIWYG

WYSIWYG (pronounced “wizz-ee-wig”) is an acronym for "what you see is what you get." It is a common editing tool in content management systems (CMS) that allows you to edit and preview page content prior to publishing. The WYSIWYG includes basic editing tools to alter the appearance of the text within the confines of the design.

The WYSIWYG is used in the "Basic Content" Flexible Content module (and a few others).

Important

When copying and pasting, always paste clean, unformatted text by:

  • Typing directly into the WYSIWYG
  • Copying/pasting content from another application like Word into Notepad before pasting it into the WYSIWYG (recommended)

It’s also important to note that the site’s style may impact how much you can alter the appearance of the text within the WYSIWYG. Use the provided headers rather than trying to force alternate font sizes. Do not alter headers by using bold or italics et al.

Linking to PDF files in the WYSIWYG

If your file has already been uploaded to Drupal:

  1. In the WYSIWYG, select the text that you want to link to a file
  2. Click the Link icon.
  3. Begin typing the name of your file and select it from the list. It will appear in the section “File – Document”
  4. Click Save.

Don’t know the name of your file? You can search the list of all files in the Media tab in the Drupal dashboard.

If your file has not already been uploaded to Drupal:

  1. In the WYSIWYG, select the text that you want to link to a file
  2. Click the Link icon in the toolbar

3. Click the "Media Library" button and follow the steps to upload the file to the Drupal media library, and select it.
